El Valle

El Valle is a southeast rural parish whose agricultural and livestock production supplies Cuenca and whose centre combines market life, popular celebrations and views over the city. Its official planning documents also preserve a long record of land, parish and community history.

Land, parish and independence-era memory

The parish PDOT records land transactions in El Valle de Guncay and Paccha from 1655 and describes El Valle's role during Cuenca's independence period. The same document gives a parish history rooted in San Juan Bautista de El Valle and notes that the exact founding record is incomplete. 2 1
