River boundary and urban expansion

The municipal ordinance frames Machángara between the urban limit, the Río Machángara, the Río Cuenca and the Milchichig creek. A 2019 municipal urban-action plan records accelerated, disordered growth at Orillas de Machángara in Quinta Chica Baja and the community's request for a pedestrian connection, making environmental and topographic conditions part of the parish's recent story. 1 2

Capulispamba, Chaullabamba and the edge

University research describes Capulispamba as a neighborhood already integrated into Cuenca's urban area and documents how Challuabamba was incorporated into the urban nucleus over time. The parks inventory lists only six neighborhood parks in Machángara, a contrast with its 1,120.39-hectare planning area in the older PDOT table; that relationship helps readers see why centralised facilities may not represent the whole parish. 3 4 5
