Nulti

Nulti is a rural parish of Cuenca with a strong food and landscape identity. Its wood-fired bread, farming communities, devotional traditions and the high ground of El Plateado offer a useful way to read the parish through everyday work as well as views.

Bread, farming and rural enterprise

VisitCuenca describes families continuing to bake bread in adobe and brick wood-fired ovens, sometimes using panela water for flavour. A 2025 Prefecture report connects Nulti's cuy festival, bread, small-animal raising, women entrepreneurs and local producers as a living rural economy. The University of Cuenca thesis held locally as the Nulti toponymy PDF studies the parish's place names in Cañari, Quichua and Spanish, alongside geology, hydrology, vegetation and settlement. The parish GAD's historical page records Nulti's civil establishment in 1869 and the continuing importance of the Señor de los Milagros devotion; its boundary account also warns that cartographic limits have changed, so the history should not be treated as a fixed route description. 5 1
