San Blas

San Blas is the historic eastern counterpart to San Sebastián. The urban parish grew from a colonial doctrine for Indigenous residents beyond the Inca road, while the named church and park remain a visible heritage anchor inside a larger modern parish.

Doctrine east of the grid

The municipal historical volume describes San Blas as a doctrine or parish of Indians east of Cuenca's urban grid, serving residents near the church and communities along the Inca road toward Guatana and Monay. The 1982 ordinance gives the urban parish a defined frame between Vega Muñoz, Huayna Cápac, Guapondélig and the Tomebamba, preserving the distinction between colonial social history and today's legal area. 2 1

Church, park and religious routes

The municipal cultural directory lists Iglesia de San Blas as a heritage venue, and the official religious-tourism brochure includes San Blas among Cuenca's church stops.
