San Joaquín

San Joaquín links the Yanuncay valley and the Macizo del Cajas biosphere landscape with a long-lived craft and farming economy. Its most distinctive cultural thread is basketry made from plant fibres, alongside gardens, water, food and community routes.

San Joaquín climbs the Yanuncay valley toward the Cajas massif. The parish belongs to the Yanuncay biocorridor, which ties 24 communities to the wildlife of the Macizo del Cajas. The Tomebamba and Yanuncay rivers run through it, and farming, livestock and water still shape daily life. 1 2
