Urban parish · Cuenca, Ecuador
Yanuncay
Yanuncay is a large south-western urban parish named by the river that crosses and helps define it. Its public identity is carried by river paths, bridges, neighbourhood parks, Don Bosco and Loja corridors and the everyday work of residents who participate in city planning.
The river as a civic reference
The 1982 ordinance defines Yanuncay from the western urban limit along the river and the road toward Turi. A Cuenca river-basin project explains that the Yanuncay watershed includes part of the city's urban area and many rural parishes upstream. 1 2
Parks and resident priorities
The University of Cuenca parks inventory counts twenty-five neighbourhood parks in Yanuncay, the largest total in its comparison. A 2026 municipal parish assembly record shows residents presenting needs for roads, services, safety and public space; together they describe a lived urban territory, while a flood-news video is included only as a dated river event record. 3 4 5
